TIGGO 8 vs TIGGO 9 Super Hybrid
Seven seats in both. A different balance of price, electric range and comfort. Here is how CHERY’s two plug-in hybrid SUVs fit family life.
Your quick guide
- Starting prices: £33,545 OTR for TIGGO 8 Super Hybrid; £43,105 for TIGGO 9 Super Hybrid.
- Electric range: up to 56 miles for TIGGO 8 and 87 miles for TIGGO 9, on the WLTP test.
- What TIGGO 9 adds: all-wheel drive, a larger battery and more luggage space with five seats in use.
What does the extra £9,560 buy?
The TIGGO 8 Super Hybrid is the more accessible way into a seven-seat CHERY plug-in hybrid. TIGGO 9 Super Hybrid moves the emphasis towards longer electric trips, all-wheel drive and additional cabin comfort. Both combine a petrol engine with a rechargeable battery, so charging can become part of your everyday routine while petrol remains available for longer journeys.

The value choice
TIGGO 8: seven seats with room in the budget
The £9,560 lower starting price is a substantial reason to put TIGGO 8 on your shortlist. Aspire and Summit let you choose the equipment level as well as the powertrain, rather than paying for a single top specification.
Its 56-mile WLTP electric range offers a useful starting point for school runs, commutes and local errands. Compare that figure with your actual week, including winter journeys, and decide whether you can charge conveniently at home or work.
For family space, the important number is the boot with the third row folded: 494 litres. With everyone aboard, there are 117 litres behind the rear seats. If you regularly carry seven people and their luggage, try your usual bags in the car before choosing.
CHERY lists features including a 540-degree camera and two 15.6-inch displays. Summit brings selected upgrades such as panoramic sunroof and Sony audio; check the exact grade rather than assuming every photographed feature is standard.

The larger family SUV
TIGGO 9: more electric miles and family space
TIGGO 9’s 34.4kWh battery and 87-mile WLTP electric range give it more scope for longer regular journeys between charges. Its all-wheel-drive hybrid system is also a clear difference from the TIGGO 8.
The cabin adds heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, while the 14-speaker Sony system includes speakers in the front headrests. These are features to try during your visit: check the seat adjustment, controls and sound system in person.
Its 819-litre boot with the third row folded provides 325 litres more quoted space than TIGGO 8 in the same seating configuration. That makes the larger model worth a closer look if a dog crate, pushchair or holiday luggage regularly fills your current car.
More battery capacity does not mean a slower headline rapid-charge stop: CHERY quotes around 20 minutes from 30% to 80% for both models on a suitable DC charger.

Charging and warranty: what they share
Both are plug-in hybrids. Regular charging helps you make use of their electric capability; the actual cost of each journey depends on your electricity tariff, charging location and petrol use. Neither WLTP electric range nor a manufacturer’s combined-range claim is a promise of the distance your own car will cover.
Both come with CHERY’s seven-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty and eight-year or 100,000-mile high-voltage battery cover, whichever limit comes first. Component limits, maintenance requirements and exclusions apply. Read CHERY’s UK warranty information.
- Take your everyday luggage. Compare the boots with the seats arranged as your family will use them.
- Try the third row. Check entry, seating positions and room for the people who will travel there.
- Discuss your charging routine. Bring your typical daily mileage and explain where the car parks overnight.
- Compare the exact cars. Ask the team to confirm grade, equipment, current offer and demonstrator availability.
