Renault Clio running costs explained
A useful budget starts with the miles you drive. Here is how to estimate Clio fuel costs and plan for the other bills that come with ownership.
Your quick guide
- Current listed hybrid grades: Renault quotes 64.2–65.7 mpg WLTP combined for the 145 hp versions covered here.
- Illustrative fuel budget: 10,000 miles at those figures and an assumed £1.45 per litre works out at approximately £1,003–£1,027 a year.
- Budget beyond petrol: add servicing, insurance, vehicle tax and tyres. Actual fuel consumption and prices will vary.
Which Clio are we looking at?
This guide covers the Clio E-Tech full hybrid 145 versions currently listed by Invicta: generation, techno esprit Alpine and iconic esprit Alpine. They combine petrol and electric power with an automatic gearbox, without an external charging cable.
Renault’s current UK price guide lists these versions as stock-only. Check availability at Bolton and confirm the exact specification before comparing costs. Figures for a different Clio generation or model year should not be used for the same quotation.
For the listed MY27 grades, generation is rated at 65.7 mpg; techno esprit Alpine and iconic esprit Alpine are rated at 64.2 mpg, all WLTP combined. These trim-specific figures are the basis for the examples below.

What might you spend on petrol?
To make the calculation easy to follow, the examples use an assumed petrol price of £1.45 per litre. This is an illustration, not a claim about today’s national average or a local forecourt price.
At 10,000 miles a year, the published hybrid figures give a fuel-only budget of roughly £84–£86 a month. That spreads the annual estimate across twelve months; your actual spending will follow your journeys and fuel purchases.
Replace the assumed fuel price with the one you usually pay. If you already own the car, your measured consumption over several fill-ups gives a more personal basis for planning than a single journey display.

Illustrative annual petrol costs, rounded to the nearest pound. Calculation: annual miles ÷ UK mpg × 4.54609 litres per imperial gallon × £1.45 per litre. Servicing, insurance, tax, finance and other costs are excluded.
Allow some room in the budget. For comparison, if a driver averaged 50 mpg over 10,000 miles at the same assumed petrol price, the calculation would be about £1,318. That is a sensitivity example, not a measured result or prediction for the Clio.
Plan for servicing and everyday wear
Renault’s service schedule depends on the model and engine. Use the vehicle’s details or My Renault to check the correct work and due date, rather than assuming all Clios share one interval.
A service plan can make scheduled maintenance easier to budget for. Ask for a quote matched to your car’s age, mileage and planned ownership period, and check what is included before comparing the total with individual service prices.
Keep tyres, wiper blades, brakes and other wear items in a separate allowance unless your specific contract includes them. A scheduled-maintenance plan should not be treated as cover for every possible expense.

Look at the whole monthly budget
Obtain an insurance quote for the exact version before committing. The car’s insurance group is only one part of the calculation; the driver, address, usage and policy details also affect the premium.
Check the vehicle-tax amount for the car and the relevant year of ownership. Do not assume the first-year figure included in a new-car quotation will be the amount payable at every renewal.
Then combine those costs with servicing, a wear-item allowance and your purchase or finance budget. If comparing finance quotations, check the deposit, term, mileage allowance and any final payment as well as the monthly figure.
The result is a budget built around your driving. Invicta’s Renault offers provide the starting point for a current quotation.
Your questions answered
Does the Clio full hybrid need plugging in?
No. It manages its battery while driving, including recovering energy as the car slows. You refuel with petrol.
What mpg does the Clio hybrid achieve?
The listed 145 hp grades in this guide are rated at 64.2–65.7 mpg WLTP combined. Check the official figure for your exact version; real-world consumption varies.
Is £1.45 per litre the current petrol price?
No. It is an explicit assumption used to demonstrate the calculation. Substitute your own fuel price to make the estimate relevant to you.
Do the examples include insurance and servicing?
No. They show petrol costs only. Add the other ownership costs separately.
Is the Clio hybrid automatic?
Yes. The E-Tech full hybrid 145 versions discussed here use an automatic transmission.
Can I order any of these Clio versions?
Renault’s current price guide marks them as stock-only. Contact Invicta Renault Bolton to check available cars and the latest quotation.
