Independent verdicts
What do Renault 4 reviews say?
The Renault 4 E-Tech electric has more going for it than a familiar name and retro styling. Across three established UK reviews, the recurring strengths are its approachable size, thoughtful cabin and ability to make ordinary journeys enjoyable.
Auto Express
Its review praises the Renault 4’s character, usable cabin and refinement. It also identifies a firm edge to the ride around town, making a drive on your usual roads worthwhile.
Top Gear
Top Gear highlights the enjoyable driving experience, cabin design and value. Its verdict calls the car “unfailingly uplifting to drive”.
Carwow
Carwow picks out practicality, efficiency and the infotainment system. It sees the Renault 4 as an easy everyday companion, while recommending a close look at rear-seat room for adults.
These are the publishers’ own ratings, rather than an Invicta road-test score. Their assessments give you a useful starting point; the next step is finding out whether the car suits your roads, passengers and charging routine.
Recognition that matters
The awards behind the appeal
The Renault 4’s reception goes beyond a single favourable review. It has collected awards for its ability to work as an everyday family car.
- Auto Express New Car Awards 2026: Small SUV of the Year. Read the judges’ verdict.
- Parkers New Car Awards 2026: Car of the Year and Best Small Family Car. See Renault UK’s announcement.
- Top Gear Electric Awards 2025: Electric Car of the Year. See why Top Gear chose it.
For a shortlist, that is a compelling combination: recognition for the whole car, as well as its role as a compact family SUV. A test drive lets you turn those recommendations into your own judgement.
From the reviews to your route
What is it like to drive?
Auto Express finds the Renault 4 composed at higher speeds and appreciates the useful response from its electric motor. Its long-term Iconic+ was averaging 4.1 miles per kWh, equivalent to 213 miles per charge when the review was checked. That is the publication’s experience, not a guaranteed range for every driver.
There is some difference in emphasis between reviewers: Top Gear enjoys its handling, while Carwow is more enthusiastic about everyday comfort than sporty driving. That makes your own route especially useful. Include a stretch of town driving and a faster road, then try parking and a few gentle stops.
Renault’s UK specification lists a 52 kWh battery, 150 hp motor and 0–62 mph in 8.2 seconds. Those figures support a car aimed at everyday use rather than performance-car acceleration.

Range and charging, explained
The current UK Renault 4 range offers up to 249 miles on the WLTP combined test. Renault quotes a 15–80% charge in around 30 minutes using a suitable DC rapid charger, with a peak DC rate of 100 kW. At an AC charging point, the car can accept up to 11 kW.
For many guests, the most useful calculation starts with where the car spends the night. If you can charge at home, compare your weekly mileage with the charging opportunities you actually have. If you depend on public charging, check convenient locations and tariffs before deciding.
Ask the team to walk through one of your regular longer journeys. It is a helpful way to understand charging stops and the difference between an official comparison figure and the distance you should plan for.
