The IM5 and IM6 share advanced electric-car hardware but package it differently. The IM5 is a long, low fastback saloon. The IM6 is a higher SUV with more luggage space and a more upright view of the road.

IM5 wins on range
The IM5 Long Range combines a 100kWh battery with a lower, more aerodynamic body to deliver up to 441 miles WLTP. The IM6 Long Range uses the same battery size but quotes up to 388 miles. Both figures are impressive; the saloon’s shape gives it the advantage.
The IM5 also offers a 75kWh Standard version with 304 miles of official range. That provides a lower entry point for drivers who do not need the 100kWh battery.
Both are built for very fast charging
The 100kWh versions use an 800-volt electrical architecture and quote a 10–80% rapid-charge time of 17 minutes under suitable conditions. Charger output, battery temperature and the starting state of charge affect the result in practice.
IM6 wins on everyday load space
The IM6 boot is listed at 665 litres, compared with 457 litres in the IM5. Its higher roof and larger 32-litre front compartment also make it better suited to bulky family equipment. The IM5 still has a practical hatchback opening, despite its saloon profile.
What about performance?
Long Range versions already offer strong response. Performance models raise output to 751PS with all-wheel drive. The IM5 Performance reaches 62mph in a quoted 3.2 seconds; the IM6 Performance takes 3.5 seconds. Both also use four-wheel steering to improve low-speed manoeuvrability.
Which one should you test first?
- Choose IM5: maximum range, a lower driving position and sharper saloon feel.
- Choose IM6: an SUV seating position, more boot space and easier family loading.
The technology story is similar. Body shape, space and driving position are the real decision points.
