Bigster’s 3,005-mile European adventure
A solar eclipse in Spain was the destination. The journey there became a 3,005-mile adventure with a Dacia Bigster, camping gear and a few unplanned stops.
Your quick guide
- The story: Dacia-backed travellers took a Bigster through France, Andorra and Spain to see August’s total solar eclipse.
- The distance: 3,005 miles across the whole trip, with normal refuelling along the way—not a single-tank range claim.
- Your next journey: explore the five-seat Bigster and current offers at Invicta Dacia Bolton.
A road trip with a remarkable destination
For the travellers featured in Dacia’s Bucket List adventure story, the aim was to see the total solar eclipse on 12 August in Fitero, Spain. A loaned Bigster, nicknamed Umbra, carried them and their camping kit on a journey that eventually covered 3,005 miles.
France, Andorra and Spain all featured, with room in the itinerary for unexpected discoveries. Carcassonne became an extra stop, while a visit to friends in Jaca added another reason to enjoy the route.
The account was published by Dacia on 2 September. It is a Dacia-supported travel story, with the photographs and experiences belonging to those travellers.
The car behind the adventure
One of the travellers’ observations was simple: It was comfortable for the long distances
. That comment comes from Dacia’s published account, rather than an Invicta road test.
For anyone planning their own holiday, comfort is worth checking properly. Set the seat and steering wheel for your normal driving position, then let your passengers try the rear seats. Think about where drinks, phones and the things you need at a stop will go.
A holiday car also has to work when the holiday ends. Try the Bigster on the roads you use each week, with attention to parking, visibility and how easy it is to get everyone aboard.
Which Bigster would suit your travels?
The current UK Bigster range offers three hybrid choices. Start with the gearbox and the kind of roads you use, then compare the trims available with that engine.
Hybrid 155
Automatic, full-hybrid power
- Gearbox
- Automatic
- Charging
- No plug required
A useful starting point if you want an automatic for town driving as well as longer journeys.
Mild hybrid 140
A familiar manual
- Gearbox
- Six-speed manual
- Technology
- 48V electric assistance
For drivers who prefer changing gear themselves, with electrical assistance supporting the petrol engine.
Hybrid 150 4x4
Automatic with all-wheel drive
- Gearbox
- Dual-clutch automatic
- Drive
- Four-wheel drive
Worth considering when your regular routes call for extra traction. Match the car and tyres to the conditions you expect.

Make room for your own plans
Bigster’s 40:20:40 split rear bench gives you flexibility when passengers and longer items need to travel together. Decide which seats you need, then check your luggage in the space left over.
Bring the bags, pushchair or outdoor kit you use most often when you visit. The shape of the load area, access through the tailgate and the height of an item can matter just as much as a headline capacity.
