Subaru has taken a bold step forward with the reveal of the all-new 2026 Subaru E-Outback – an all-electric evolution of one of its most recognisable and capable models.
Long known for its rugged, go-anywhere reputation, the Outback is now entering a new era. And if early reviews are anything to go by, this is more than just an electrified version – it’s a major leap forward for the brand.
A familiar name, reimagined
While the traditional petrol Outback won’t return to the UK, Subaru has ensured its legacy continues with the E-Outback – a fully electric alternative that retains the model’s core DNA of practicality, capability and all-weather confidence.
Originally previewed as the “Trailseeker”, the new model has been renamed for Europe to keep it closely aligned with the much-loved Outback nameplate.
Power meets practicality
Under the skin, the E-Outback delivers impressive performance for a family-focused vehicle. Expect around 376bhp, all-wheel drive as standard, and a range of up to 279 miles on a full charge.
That means it’s not only capable off-road – as Subaru buyers would expect – but also quick on the road, with strong acceleration and confident all-weather handling.
Built for adventure
True to its heritage, the E-Outback hasn’t lost its rugged edge. It combines estate car practicality with SUV-like capability, featuring:
• Permanent all-wheel drive
• Raised ride height and protective body cladding
• Roof rails and generous load space
• Off-road driving modes for tougher terrain
It’s a vehicle designed for everything from the school run to weekend adventures.
A more premium, tech-focused interior
Inside, Subaru has taken a significant step forward in technology and usability. A large 14-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and improved cabin layout bring the E-Outback in line with modern expectations.
There’s also more space than before, thanks to a taller roofline and clever packaging – making it an even more practical choice for families.
When will it arrive?
The new Subaru E-Outback is expected to arrive in the UK in summer 2026, with pricing likely to start from around the £50,000 mark.
While full UK specifications are still to be confirmed, it’s already clear that this model represents a significant shift for Subaru as it embraces electrification.

Alongside the new E-Outback, the new Subaru Solterra and Uncharted EVs are also due in 2026
