OMODA 5 vs Vauxhall Frontera
Compare the petrol entry versions: automatic convenience, equipment, price and warranty.
At a glance
- OMODA 5 Knight: £24,040 OTR, 147 PS and a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
- Frontera Design petrol: announced 8 October at £22,820 OTR, with 100 PS and a six-speed manual.
- OMODA strengths: automatic convenience, useful cabin technology and longer headline vehicle-warranty cover.
A new petrol entry point changes the comparison
Vauxhall announced a petrol Frontera on 8 October 2026, with a lower starting price of £22,820 OTR. That makes the useful entry-level comparison OMODA 5 Knight petrol against Frontera Design petrol—not the price of a petrol car paired with the specification of a hybrid.
There is an important difference straight away: the OMODA is automatic; the new entry Frontera is manual. Frontera has the lower list price, while OMODA offers more quoted power and longer headline vehicle-warranty cover.

What the extra £1,220 buys into
The OMODA’s starting list price is £1,220 higher. Its automatic gearbox is a practical attraction if you drive in traffic regularly or simply prefer not to change gear yourself. The 147 PS output is also higher than the Frontera petrol’s 100 PS, although output alone does not tell you how either car will feel.
Knight’s UK equipment includes twin 12.3-inch displays, a reversing camera and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Check the exact standard list rather than assuming every feature in a Noble photograph belongs to Knight.
If you want an automatic rival, quote the appropriate Frontera hybrid separately. It would be a different powertrain and price comparison, not the £22,820 manual version shown here.
Petrol and hybrid are not interchangeable labels
Neither entry petrol version compared here needs external charging. The OMODA 5 SHS-H is a separate full hybrid; the Frontera range also has hybrid and fully electric choices.
A full hybrid, mild-hybrid system and battery-electric car operate differently. Do not carry the petrol entry price across to a hybrid’s economy or an EV’s electric range. Start with the exact variant on the quotation.
If your priority is a compact automatic petrol SUV, OMODA 5 Knight is the relevant starting point. If you want no-plug hybrid driving instead, ask our team about SHS-H as a separate choice.
Check the things you will use every day
The cabin, visibility and controls are worth more time than a feature count. Sit in your normal driving position, connect your compatible phone and check how easy it is to reach the settings you use most.
Try the rear seat with your normal passengers and check the boot opening with your usual luggage. Frontera’s optional seven-seat layout is limited to selected higher trims; entry Design is not a seven-seat car. OMODA 5 has five seats.
OMODA’s seven-year/100,000-mile headline cover is a genuine strength to put alongside the automatic gearbox and equipment. Ask for the servicing requirements and component limits, then compare the complete current quotation.
