Independent UK verdicts
What do the UK reviews tell us?
The JAECOO 8 puts a well-equipped plug-in hybrid into the large-SUV shortlist. Independent UK reviews highlight its smooth powertrain, substantial standard equipment and comfortable cabin. The most useful next step is to match those strengths to your passenger needs.
Auto Express
3.5/5Review dated 29 April 2026
Shane Wilkinson praises the refined hybrid powertrain, useful electric range and strong acceleration. His verdict also makes the third-row space a key point to assess in person.
Carwow
8/10Updated 20 July 2026
Tom Wiltshire highlights the inviting cabin, standard equipment and comfort over longer journeys. The review is more reserved about how useful the rearmost seats are.
Autotrader
3.5/5Updated 16 September 2026
Dan Trent identifies comfort, refinement and the amount of equipment as attractions. His assessment also raises questions about the driving experience and driver-assistance controls.

A smooth hybrid is central to the appeal
Auto Express describes the petrol-to-electric transition as unobtrusive and finds the acceleration particularly strong. For guests moving from a conventional family SUV, that makes the powertrain an important part of the test drive—not just a set of numbers.
“The plug-in hybrid powertrain is very refined”
Auto Express, JAECOO 8 review
JAECOO UK currently lists 428 PS, all-wheel drive and up to 83 miles of electric range for the SHS-P. The range figure is a manufacturer WLTP claim; everyday results depend on conditions and how you drive and charge. View the official UK specification.
Equipment you can try for yourself
Carwow’s review gives particular weight to the amount of equipment and the cabin’s appeal. JAECOO’s UK specification includes dual 12.3-inch displays, a Sony 14-speaker audio system and a 540-degree camera system with an underbody view.
At your appointment, connect your phone, find the functions you use most and try the parking-camera views while stationary. A feature list tells you what is fitted; a demonstration helps you decide whether the controls suit you.
Ask the team to explain the driver-assistance settings as well. That makes your test drive a better assessment of the car you would use every day.
Choose the seating layout before the badge
Luxury has seven seats; Executive has six. The Executive adds a more individual second-row arrangement with captain’s chairs. It is a different seating choice, rather than simply the same car with one extra equipment package.
The reviews make this a useful showroom check: try access to the third row with the passengers who would use it, and look at luggage space with that row raised. If the rear seats will be occupied regularly, bring that requirement into the conversation early.
Luxury — seven seats
Published by JAECOO UK from £45,500 OTR. Start here when retaining the seventh seat matters.
Executive — six seats
Published by JAECOO UK from £47,500 OTR. Consider it when individual second-row comfort matters more than a seventh seat.
