Dacia Sandero or Citroën C3?
Two five-door petrol hatchbacks put value first, but they reach it in different ways. The Sandero starts lower and offers three clear trims; the C3 adds a crossover stance and Citroën comfort.
At a glance
- Entry price: Sandero Essential TCe 100 starts at £14,765; Citroën C3 Collection Turbo 100 starts at £19,870.
- Compare like with like: both are 100hp petrol manuals, but their standard equipment and body dimensions differ.
- Best decision: set a maximum budget, choose must-have equipment, then test comfort and load space with your own routine.
A price gap that changes the shortlist
Sandero Essential TCe 100 MY26 starts from £14,765, excluding metallic paint. Expression starts from £15,765 and Journey from £17,065.
Citroën currently lists the C3 Collection Turbo 100 manual from £19,870 OTR. That makes even Sandero Journey less expensive on the published starting prices, before options, offers or finance.

Sandero Essential: keep the brief simple
Essential includes Media Control with Bluetooth and DAB, cruise control with speed limiter, rear parking sensors and a split-folding rear seat. It is the clearest choice if the objective is a new five-door car at the lowest current Sandero price.
Expression is the natural step if you want a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone replication, a reversing camera and front fog lights. Journey adds navigation, wireless phone charging, blind-spot warning and a multiview camera.
C3 Collection: a different starting specification
C3 Collection includes 17-inch black alloy wheels, Citroën Advanced Comfort seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display and a reversing camera.
It also includes Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension. Those items help explain why this is not a simple “same equipment, higher price” comparison.
Touchscreen or straightforward phone control?
Sandero Essential uses a phone-based Media Control arrangement rather than the larger screen fitted to Expression and Journey. That can suit a driver who wants fewer built-in systems and a lower purchase price.
C3 Collection and Sandero Expression both bring wireless smartphone mirroring into the decision. Connect your own phone during a demonstration and check call, audio and navigation tasks before treating screen size as the answer.
Comfort is personal
C3 makes comfort a central part of its proposition, pairing Advanced Comfort seats with its suspension system. The more upright crossover shape may also appeal to drivers who prefer a higher-looking stance.
Sandero gives you a conventional hatchback package with generous equipment steps. Sit in both cars long enough to check seat support, pedal position, visibility and how easily a second household driver can adjust the cabin.
Space: use the same objects in both cars
Citroën quotes a 310-litre boot and 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded. For Sandero, check the current technical measurement for the exact version and compare the opening, floor shape and seat-fold arrangement in person.
A pushchair, mobility aid or two cabin cases provide a more useful test than mixing different measuring standards. Keep the rear seats in the position your passengers will actually use.
Warranty: read the servicing conditions
Dacia supplies a three-year or 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty. Its Dacia Zen programme can renew cover annually up to seven years or 75,000 miles when the car is serviced within the stated terms.
Citroën’s manufacturer warranty is three years, and its We Care programme can extend essential coverage up to eight years when servicing and eligibility conditions are met. Neither headline should replace reading the full terms.
Which should you choose?
Choose Sandero if the lowest published price and a simple progression from Essential to Journey lead your decision. Put C3 alongside it if its Collection equipment, comfort-focused suspension and crossover design justify the additional spend for you.
